TePoeRava is an extremely competent mid sized cruising sailing catermaran. It is a Maxim 380 mark 2 built in 2005 in South Africa and is number 49 of 53 built. The designer is Alex Simonis, known for his work with Leopard and providing the vessels pedigree for sailing performance and seakeeping. It has been sailed across the Pacific and has just completed a circumnavigation of Australia including around Tasmania. It is a vessel very well maintained by the current owners now seeking to travel onshore.
An Internet search on Maxim 380 will yield independent information from various forums. There is a main cabin and bathroom including a standup shower on the port side. The starboard side has two double cabins and a second bathroom. The toilets are both Vacu- flush with the port side discharging to a holding tank for inshore use.
Forward watertight compartments, fixed engine room fire systems, 4 electric and two manual bilge pumps, Inner side stays and inner forestay, ability to reef the main from the cockpit, speak to the usual safety considerations in the design. All running rigging, except for the spinnaker, run back to the cockpit, this includes main sail reefing lines. It is galley up with keel plate cooled condensers on refrigeration negating hot air exhaust into the saloon.
1.1kw of solar panels, and DC/DC chargers on both engine charging systems maintain the LIFEPO4 batteries more than sufficiently to run all systems including the Spectra water maker. A 3 kw multiplus inverter provides 240 v ac from a central outlet. There is a non operating 110 v 3 kw generator and 110 v outlets that could be recommissioned with some work if desired.
It has 2x 250 Ltr stainless steel fuel tanks providing a motoring range of over 1000 nm on single engine run. Water is held in 2 X 250 Ltr stainless steel tanks. Saloon windows are all tinted laminated glass. Large storage spaces forward of port and starboard cabins can also be children's berths. Two large forward deck lockers and 3 large lockers in the cockpit provide huge storage volumes. Starlink and an Iridium Go (as a backup) provide planet wide internet and weather forecast capability. An Ocean Signal MOB 1 and Accustat pocket epirb included, provide AIS and satellite man overboard alert signalling for the duty helmsman.
All these elements made the boat comfortably self sufficient for a 4 month unsupported expedition in the Kimberley during the circumnavigation. The Yanmar 3YM30 engines start immediately and have clean exhaust. Fixed mini keels and substantial rudder skegs project below the bottom of the propellers making for easy dry out on suitable hard sand beaches.
An unusual but handy feature is a telescopic boom extension that acts as a crane jib and with the main halyard is useful for lifting the tender outboard, or other items if needed.
New standing rigging was installed 2021. Raymarine chart plotter, wind instrument, tri data, autohelm all new Feb 2023, Full suite of Victron 12v components (see Victron Connect screen shot in the photos) installed Feb 2023. Genoa replaced May 2025. New Sailbag August 2025.
There is a great video made by previous owner ( Dec 2018) that can be found in the link in the Presentation section at the end of the specifications below. This shows the layout well. Some changes have been made since then, eg tender davits and increased solar panels, and these are seen in the photos. A file of standard pdf Maxim 380 drawings is also included and it shows indicative plan form layout.
The vessel has just been slipped in July for antifoul and annual preventive maintenance including service of the sail drives. ( routine shaft seal replacements, upper and prop anode replacements etc).
Currently moored at Redland Bay and available for inspection by contact. Mob
