The Mottle 33 is one of the most popular Australian-designed and built cruiser/racers, renowned for its excellent sailing performance and exceptional accommodation. These vessels offer true versatility, with many having completed serious bluewater passages while remaining competitive in club and twilight racing. With an outstanding reputation for safety and comfort, the Mottle 33 continues to be highly sought after. Kai Au Kai is an excellent example of the design. Robustly built of triple layered King Billy Pine, and Dynel/Epoxy sheathed for low maintenance, it presents in excellent condition throughout. This vessel has been both cruised and raced extensively including completing numerous Sydney to Hobart races (including a 1st place in the 1991 PHS division), Melbourne to Hobart West Coast Races, and was a regular competitor in the 3 Peaks Races. In recent years it has been enjoyed for leisurely family cruising, and has been very well set up to also be an ideal liveaboard. The significant upgrades include A COMPLETE REFIT OF THE INTERIOR INCLUDING NEW UPHOLSTERY, NEW 12V AND 240V SYSTEMS, 1500W INVERTER, DEEP CYCLE BATTERY BANK, SOLAR PANELS WITH REGULATOR, UPRIGHT FRIDGE AND MICROWAVE, THE DECKS HAVE BEEN REPAINTED, AND THE VESSEL WAS FRESHLY ANTIFOULED SEPT 2025, ready for a Summer of sailing! The vessel also features an upgraded 30HP Yanmar Diesel engine with only 595 hours on the clock, providing excellent performance and economy. With all the boxes ticked, this is a vessel not to miss!

Stepping inside, interior is a charming mix of traditional timber trims and clean white finishes, creating a light and welcoming ambience. To port is the generous dinette, with seating for 6 on the newly upholstered settees. Opposite is the well appointed galley. This is fully equipped with an upright fridge, microwave oven, 3 burner metho stove, stainless steel sink with pressurised water, and new timber bench top. The accommodation is ideal for cruising with friends and family and features a generous double berth aft, double V-berth forward, single settee berth and single quarter berth. The package is complete with a private bathroom with a manual toilet and vanity.

Outside, the cockpit is deep, safe, and well protected with the spray dodger. The vessel is very well set up to be easily sailed short handed with the furling headsail, mainsail in a boom bag with lazy jacks, all lines lead back to the cockpit, excellent electronics and autopilot. The cockpit cushions are a great touch, and also make this a great space to relax and enjoy the views in your favourite anchorage.

This vessel is powered by the low hours Yanmar 30HP Diesel engine which was installed new about 10 years ago. It has been well maintained, and provides easy cruising at 5 to 6 knots.
