Description:

Designed by Robert Perry and built by Nordic Yachts in Bellingham, WA, the Nordic 40 is a proven offshore sailing yacht. The fine entry and deep fin keel provides superior upwind performance and comfort. The wide beam and moderate displacement give her great stability. The N40 sports a large rudder hung on a high aspect ratio skeg, a design that produces superb steering and exceptional tracking.

Escape is hull #30 of 32 built, and was highly customized and fitted out by her original owner, meticulously maintained during 32 years of ownership. She finished 3rd in class in the 1990 Pacific Cup race from SF to Hawaii. Up until 2023, Escape spent her entire time in the San Francisco Bay, day sailing and local (SF Yacht Club) races. In 2024, Escape cruised down the West Coast to Mexico with her owners. She is now available in La Cruz and taken care of by a reliable caretaker during her owners absence and always maintained in immaculate condition. She is available for inspection at short notice. A video tour will be available soon on our Nautilus Yacht Management Youtube Channel.

Owners Comments:

"Unfortunately we need to part with our beloved Nordic 40 to make room for FOXFIRE, a highly custom Perry 56 we have under contract. We purchased Escape in the fall of 2020. She was in amazing condition and we knew immediately that her owner had maintained her with an open checkbook. When you find a offshore pedigree (like a Bob Perry design) combined with light use and meticulous care, it's a perfect start for what we had in mind. Over the course of four years, while enjoying local sailing in SF Bay, we completely re-fit, updated and upgraded Escape with a goal of equipping her for offshore cruising and passage making. She has all the newest technologies in rigging, sail plans, communications, navigation, power, livability, and safety at sea. In Oct 2024, we sailed out the GG, south to San Diego, stopping in Monterey and Catalina Island along the way. We joined the 30th Baja Ha-Ha from SD to Cabo San Lucas in early Nov, then sailed across the Gulf of CA to Mazatlan, Pacific Mexico. In early 2025, we continued south to Banderas Bay, and then further down the coast to Barra de Navidad, stopping at several anchorages along the way. In March we sailed back north to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit in Banderas Bay where we have her currently at the marina, under excellent local care. All systems aboard have performed so well this entire time since leaving SF. It's been fantastic to enjoy all the hard work and preparation. Our plan is to bring her back up into CA in June, unless there is someone interested in taking her while still in Mexico.

If you are solo, a couple, or small family dreaming of going offshore, either coastal cruising or crossing an ocean in safety, reliability, and overall performance, and, don't want to burn up all your precious time doing all the work and updating, then Escape is the boat for you! She is 100% READY TO GO at a fraction of the total investment to date. "

Broker's Comment: Immaculately presented and professionally upgraded at no expense spared. The interior would rival a new vessel. The electronics, mechanical, electrical and safety equipment as well as the sails and rigging were recently installed and sea trialed. This wonderful performance offshore cruiser is a safe and comfortable option for someone looking for a sea kindly and safe pedigree yacht. This Nordic N40 was built in the USA to the highest standards and if maintained as well as she always has been, will keep her value for decades to come.
At the time of writing, Importing into Australia provides duty-free treatment under the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA). GST would however be payable if an Australian owner wishes to bring and keep the boat in Australia.

NYM has a reputation to present to the market only quality cruising yachts in beautiful, turn-key condition, but our real trademark is to work as a team with you and the sellers to ensure a seamless, transparent and joyful experience.

Original Universal M40 Marine diesel engine 4cyl., 32hp @2800rpm. 1950hrs (May 2025); meticulously maintained throughout with regular service intervals and records. *Access to engine by removing companionway stairs and also through side hatch in aft stateroom Fuel consumption:. 7 gal/hr @2000rpm Hurth V drive transmission (replaced in 2017) Fresh water wet exhaust mixing elbow and was replaced and relocated (2021) Heat exchanger (2019) K&N air filter with added catch can to PCV system to reduce oil vapors in intake manifold (2023) Racor 200 primary fuel filter Engine hoses replaced as needed (2022-24) Raw water pump (bronze) replaced (2022) Fresh coolant pump replaced (2024) 1 1/4 inch SS drive shaft with PYI PSS dripless shaft seal (2018) PYI MAX Prop 4 blade EcoWind feathering prop (2012) Owner's comment: Engine is a Universal M40. We bought it in 2020 with just over 1500hrs. The original owner meticulously maintained I have most his records on servicing. He had it maintained by a local marine mechanic/shop in Sausalito CA. After doing the Pacific Cup in 1990 he only used boat locally in SF Bay and some close coastal so not surprising the hrs are low. Mostly out of his marina in 5 mins and into the wind of SF Bay. The records are easy to see the hours over all that time going back to 1989.

Accommodation
The overall fit and finish of the interior and joinery is superb and in impeccable condition.

The forward stateroom is spacious and features a large V berth with removable middle wedge to make for two single berths if desired. There is a hanging locker and drawer storage along with good amount of shelf storage on each side. The forward berth has a door for privacy. Forward in the berth is a small door to access the chain locker, which also feeds lower into the hull underneath the V berth to store additional rode. Also under the V berth is the 16 gal holding tank.

Aft of the forward stateroom on starboard is a vanity top and storage area with cabinets above and below. Note that all the inside of cabinets and lockers on the hull sides of boat are finished in varnished teak planks with insulation (foam) behind on the hull covering the entire interior.

Aft and to port is the head area with separate shower stall and bench seat. Whale gulper drain pump and new shower head (2023). The shower area has a closet rod for use as a wet locker. Single stainless sink and solid marble vanity top; good storage in cabinets on side and below. Old Raritan salt water head was replaced in 2021 with a completely new fresh water Jabsco Quiet-Flush electric toilet system, including new sanitation hoses and Jabsco 3-way valve for directing waste to holding tank or directly overboard when offshore. Seacocks for sink drain and head waste located under vanity are Marelon type.

The salon area is very spacious with a long (7ft. ) settee on starboard and very large teak (with inlays) table to port, that has a large folding leaf and deep storage compartment in the middle of table for food, bottles, etc. Seating for 8 comfortably. Both the starboard and port salon settees have lee cloths and make for perfect sea berths when offshore. Cabinets throughout the salon on both sides provide an abundance of storage options. There is also a storage area below the seat cushion at salon table. The two 60 gal stainless steel fresh water tanks are exactly the same and located below the settees on each side. All tank levels are measured by a new (2021) Tank Tender instrument that is located at the nav station.

The aft stateroom with privacy door is located on starboard and features a double mattress. There is a hanging locker and three storage drawers below the bed. There are reading lamps (LED) and overhead lighting, along with 12v Caframo fan and 12v power plugs for charging phones, tablets, etc.

The entire vessel's lighting has been converted to LED bulbs. There are also a total of five Caframo 12v fans that were installed in 2024 in galley, salon, and both staterooms.
