Pescott Firefly 850 ~ Blistering speeds in excess of 20 Knots

The Firefly 850 was designed by Australian multihull sailor and designer Mark Pescott, a highly experienced offshore sailor, boatbuilder and multihull specialist.

Based for many years in Southeast Asia, Pescott became a prominent figure in the Phuket multihull racing scene. His Firefly 850 design developed into a successful one-design racing class, with the boats regularly competing at major Asian regattas including Phuket Raceweek, the Bay Regatta and other regional events. The Firefly 850 was conceived as a lightweight, high-performance racing catamaran, with the emphasis firmly on speed, responsiveness and competitive racing. The design incorporates daggerboards and a powerful sail plan and has developed a strong reputation among multihull sailors.

For buyers looking for a genuine performance catamaran, the Firefly 850's pedigree is a significant part of the boat's appeal.

Known for its blistering performance and exhilarating handling, the Pescott Firefly 850 is a true high-performance racing catamaran. With its lightweight construction, powerful sail plan and performance-oriented hull design, the Firefly is capable of reaching speeds well in excess of 20 knots.

'Whip It' was purchased by her current owner in Queensland in 2010 and subsequently transported by road to Perth.

One of the Firefly's particularly appealing design features is its demountable construction. The boat can be dismantled and broken down into manageable sections, making road transportation relatively straightforward and providing owners with the flexibility to relocate the boat when required.

'Whip It' is currently stored on the hardstand at Nedlands Yacht Club, where she is hauled out and stored during the off-season each year.

During the summer sailing season, she is returned to the water and kept on a mooring at the club, providing a convenient and established arrangement for the current owner.

Subject to club approval and applicable membership conditions, a new owner may have the opportunity to join Nedlands Yacht Club and continue with the existing mooring and hardstand arrangement.

Note, all of the photos of the boat sitting on the hardstand were taken on 3/9/2026 and are indicative of the current condition of the boat. The photos of her sailing were supplied by the owner and most were taken around 5-6 years ago.
