Kaesler - "Old Bastard" - Sydney CR39
Overview
Kaesler is a one-owner vessel that presents beautifully, with rigging replaced in 2018 (current) and an exceptionally low 274 hours on its original engine. This Sydney CR39 offers the best of both worlds - the performance pedigree of the Sydney 38 with added cruising comfort, making it an ideal cruiser-racer.
History & Design
Designed by renowned naval architect Andrew Dovell, the Sydney CR39 is the cruiser-racer variant of the iconic Sydney 38, built by Sydney Yachts at Nowra. Launched in Adelaide in December 2005, Kaesler is one of only 12 CR39s ever built. She shares the same proven hull and rig as the Sydney 38 - of which more than 65 were constructed - but was configured with enhanced features to provide comfort for cruising without compromising racing performance.
Kaesler has enjoyed an impressive racing career at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron over the past 20 years, consistently performing in both inshore and offshore events. Her name appears on numerous Squadron trophies, a testament to her speed and capability on the racecourse.
The sail plan is highly versatile, incorporating both a retractable 3m prod for asymmetrical spinnakers as well as symmetrical spinnakers for masthead and hounds positions. Typically raced with a crew of nine, Kaesler is a proven and competitive yacht that remains comfortable for extended cruising.
Keel Modification
Adding to her performance credentials, Kaesler's keel was professionally modified by Bolton of Blue Sky Marine. The upgrade included fitting a larger bulb and a more performance-orientated fin, along with reinforcing the keel bolt section. This modification delivers enhanced stability, responsiveness, and overall racing performance while maintaining structural integrity.
Service & Maintenance
Kaesler has been meticulously maintained from new, with fully documented annual service history available from 2005 to present. Hull and engine servicing has been consistently undertaken by Port River Marine and Yanmar agents Webb Marine Services, Port Adelaide.
The original sail wardrobe, supplied by North Sails Sydney, has been regularly serviced and maintained by Norths and their Adelaide agents, Binks Sails. The vessel's care and attention to maintenance reflect the pride of a fastidious one-owner yacht.
