All the hard work is already done on this beautiful and extremely rare yacht.
If you're in the market for a solidly built, well designed, blue water cruiser, this Kaufmann & Ladd designed cutter is a far better option than the "average white boats" you'll see here, because there's no lightweight parts with easily damaged surfaces. No thin hull, no thin deck, no minimum spec hardware. Just good, solid, honest yacht.
You don't get acres of open plan entertaining area, but you do get well designed areas that offer plenty of hand holds for when you're in rough conditions.
You don't get "turn around on a $2 coin" manoeuvering, but you do get a yacht that can sail true all day without the autopilot doing much at all.
K-Sera 2 is a 14.7m Centre Cockpit, cutter rigged Sloop that has been carefully set up for permanent live aboard and trouble free cruising.
Over the past 10 years, we've gone through this beautiful boat and repaired, refurbished, redesigned and upgraded all the key areas of the vessel, with a focus on functionality and reliability.
The main upgrades were:
Conversion from cable to HyDrive Hydraulic Steering, with entirely separate Hydraulic Auto Pilot.
Full electrical re-wire of both 12v and 240v systems and replacement of all light fixtures with LED units.
Design and installation of custom saloon and cockpit lighting system.
Replaced all battery chargers and batteries. Fitted high performance solar panels and controller.
Full rebuild of all water plumbing. Potable water system rebuilt with PEX pipe and fittings. New 40 Litre Hot Water and new taps/fittings.
Replacement of all skin fittings and sea cocks, using Tru-Design equipment.
Redesigned and refurbished foredeck / anchor windlass / chain locker to ensure easy and reliable anchoring. Fitted oversized anchor.
Designed and installed a comprehensive fuel management system ('polishing', transferring etc).
Redesigned cockpit coamings to keep cockpit dry.
Replaced all electronics with current model B&G / Simrad equipment.
Aurora 3.1m RIB Tender (with tube covers), fitted with 15hp Suzuki 4 Stroke Outboard.
Other things worth mentioning:
Oversized everything - Mast, boom and standing rigging is all oversize for this vessel (mast section is recommended for 60 - 80ft boats). LARGE primary winches for easy trimming.
Large, solid davits
DRY cockpit with wrap around Perspex windscreen and hard top
Lots of fuel and water capacity
190cm headroom in some places
Good fridge and freezer
75hp Yanmar Turbo in good condition
International Registration
Custom lighting throughout
What does it need?
A coat of paint... Step aboard, go sailing and enjoy yourself while you're getting to know the boat and working out what colours you want where.
Why are we selling her?
We've had the pleasure of calling K Sera 2 home for the past 10 years. During that time, we've cruised the Queensalnd coast, met a lot of great people, drank a lot of wine and seen more amazing things than we could possibly write about here. But now it's time for us to move on to the next part of our lives, where we buy a house again, start paying all those household bills we've avoided for 10 years and get to play with the grandkids.
A full list of all the work we've done is available on request, as is more pics and an explanation of why she's so rare.
