Dick Newick Trea 26 8m

Vakalele (Flying Canoe)

In the harmony of Spirit, Speed, Strength and Simplicity this lovely trimaran covers a lot of territory.

The centre cockpit incorporates ease of handling from mast to motor while offering the choice of protected sailing. The folding dodger connects to a removable bimini keeping out spray at 15 knots and the blazing sun as desired.

The mainsail has a permanent preventer for safety and trim, the roller furling jib is self tacking and the roller furling screecher pulls out the stops for off wind speed. All sails are controlled from the cockpit. Spectra trampolines on each side are a pleasure to use providing for safe deck activities and easy storage for the hard dinghy.

For coastal sailing, the anchor is stowed on the prodder roller and deployed and raised from the trampoline with the tiller and motor controls at hand. The pivoting centre board and rudder swing up so that you can enjoy as little as half a metre of skinny water. For peace of mind and avoiding damage, they both have simple release fuses in case of unexpected grounding

Plenty of electrical power is gathered by a 111W solar panel permanently mounted out of the way on the aft deck supplying two 100 AH gel batteries under the cockpit sole. Other on-board heavies; water, fuel and people, are all centred on the boat for comfortable sailing. A tiller pilot (and spare) handle her easily and efficiently except for heavy down wind conditions.

Ideal for single or double handing, there's a comfortable single bunk in the forward cabin and a matching bunk in the aft cabin. In deference to simplicity, the galley is limited to a large pantry locker and single burner stove. At anchor the entire cockpit can be enclosed with side curtains to deter mozzies, rain and cold while providing a perfect 1.3m by 2.1m bed or sofa with a 360° views.

She has a robust braked trailer and is easy to haul set-up or also demountable with all parts stowing neatly within a 2.5m width for easy road travel.

For the seller, this is the third Newick trimaran that he has owned. Now 88, he has sailed tris for 50 years with single-handed crossings of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans on five occasions. This beauty is flowing with intention, care and all around performance, harmonising the joy of passages, sailing well with simplicity, safety and comfort.
