BUBBALUI FARRIER 31 9A
Bubbalui is a Farrier 31 9A built in Tasmania in 1998. She is a balsa epoxy sandwich construction. Her layout is aft cabin option with a central cockpit. The interior is light and spacious and consists of the galley to port and a large chart table with storage under to starboard. There is a comfortable seating port and starboard with a central table as you move forward. There is large storage areas behind the seats on both sides. As you move forward there is the head to port and then a vee birth forward. We have owned Bubbalui since 2015. We have sailed her across Bass Straight and have enjoyed the beautiful coastline of Tasmania from the east coast to the World Heritage of the southwest. She is a quick boat, very seaworthy boat in all conditions.
In 2023 Bubbalui underwent a major refit. The rig was removed, and all the deck fittings removed in preparation for a complete repaint. All deck penetrations were checked and where necessary all penetrations were over drilled and filled with epoxy to eliminate water ingress into the deck. Below the water line antifouling was ground back and then sanded in preparation for repainting. The deck and hull were sanded and existing non slip areas were removed. New larger hatches with Huon pine surrounds were fitted into both floats. All inspection ports in floats were replaced with high quality Armstrong hatches. The hull and deck were spray painted and new anti slip areas installed. All deck fittings were reinstalled with great care. Three coats of antifouling were applied to the boat.
The rig was stripped and all fittings throughly checked by a professional rigger. New Dyneema running rigging was installed and has been checked by the rigger during the sailing in period.. All halyards were renewed as well as some the sheets. A new Profurl furler installed 02/23.
In 2023 a new 2.8 metre True Kit catamaran dinghy was purchased which was coupled with a 4 HP Mercury outboard. The dinghy is very seaworthy has very good stability and load carrying capacity. It tows very well and is easily stored on the trampoline net. A 12 V pump was purchased which mean inflation is very simple and allows for easy storage when doing offshore passages.
In 2024 a new Yamaha 25 HP motor was professionally installed by a local dealer. Under power Buubbalui cruises at 8 knots in flat water. Being such a capable sailing boat the engine is only used in no wind situations or in emergencies where the extra power of the 25 HP gives her the capability to get out of any situation.
In March 2025 we commissioned a new mainsail and batten cars from Storm Bay Sails. The new main is a laminate construction, it has three reefing points which is important with a trimaran which performs better when sailed flat and reduces the loads on the rig and the boat in stronger winds.
