Whitehall Spirit Custom built trailer sailor

The Whitehall Spirit 17 is a versatile beautifully designed vessel which can be sculled, rowed, or sailed.
SCULLING
The boat has two sets of bronze outrigger row locks which fold inboard when not used. The sliding seat can be fitted in either position to scull the boat. A second seat could be built by a cabinet maker or boat builder which with a second set of sculling blades would allow double sculling.
ROWING
The boat can be rowed by up to three people. The athwart ship seats can be positioned to allow up to three rowers using the conventional row locks and oars. When new the boat is only supplied with a single set of oars.
SAILING
The boat uses an unstayed Gunter rig. The mast is Oregon and is in excellent condition. The main boom and Gunter boom are in very good condition but would benefit from a revarnish. The boat also runs a foresail which can be fitted to the bow or to a short bowsprit which attaches to the foredeck. The luff wire of the foresail acts as a forestay when using the sail.
CONDITION
The boat has not been used for over five years due to health issues effecting the current owner. It has never been stored outside and is currently in an underground garage. The overall condition is very good but it would benefit from a deep clean and a hull polish. The timber of the gunwales and interior fixtures are in excellent condition with no rot or cracks. The quality of the fibreglass hull is excellent with no damage in evidence.
TRAILER
The boat sits on a fully galvanised trailer which is in superb condition with no corrosion, it has a manual retrieval winch, fully waterproof lighting and is currently registered.
BOAT COVER
The boat has a fully fitted cover which is supported on four polycarbonate hoops making a tensioned surface which will not sag and hold water.
When not in use the spars, oars, rudder, and sails fit inside the boat making a neat package.
I would advise anyone interested in this boat should look at the Whitehall website which is a mine of information about the Spirit 17 including videos on how to rig the boat for sailing. To buy this boat new today would cost 56,000 Canadian dollars, it represents great value for the current asking price.
