Built in Hawaii by the renowned classic boat builder Kurt Ashford, 'Ishmael' is something very special! With double diagonal cedar planking plus two additional layers of mahogany strip planking (4" hull thickness in total!) the strong and robust hull boasts true Bluewater capability. Superbly set us as a top sail gaff rigged schooner, this vessel under sail is a stunning site to behold, and certainly turns heads where ever it pulls into port. Having sailed extensively through the South Pacific Islands with the original owner/builder before finishing his cruise on the East Coast of Australia. The current, highly experience owner purchased the vessel in the Gold Coast in 2021 and embarked on an extensive refit over two years. The work included MASTS REMOVED, RE-VARNISHED, NEW STANDING AND RUNNING RIGGING, NEW ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND FUEL LINES, NEW 12V FRIDGE/FREEZER, NEW GAS SYSTEM, NEW HOT WATER SYSTEM, NEW ELECTRIC TOILET WITH HOLDING TANK, NEW SAIL AND HATCH COVERS, NEW ANCHOR AND STAINLESS STEEL ANCHOR BASH PLATES, 4 X NEW BILGE PUMPS, NEW LIFE RAFT IN CURRENT SURVEY, NEW LITHIUM HOUSE BATTERY AND AGM START BATTERY, NEW 240V SYSTEM, NEW RADIOS, ALL NEW SAILS, NEW DINGHY DAVITS, the list goes on! The vessel was then sailed to Hobart for the 2022 Wooden Boat Festival, and has enjoyed cruising the stunning waters of Southern Tasmania since. Stepping inside, the cream finishes and stunning varnished timber trims create a feeling of old world charm. With many traditional features, there are so many great spaces to relax and enjoy the ambience. Midships is the saloon to port with a large dinette, and seating for 6 on on the neatly upholstered settees. The well appointed galley is opposite. This is fully equipped with 12V upright fridge with freezer compartment, 2 burner gas stove with oven, stainless steel sink with H/C pressurised water, and 240V outlets for all the modern appliances. Aft of this area is a welcoming lounge area, ideal for reading or entertaining, and has seating for up to 8. It also features the diesel heater, ideal for enjoying the vessel all year round. The accommodation is ideal for cruising with family and friends. Forward is the master cabin, complete with Pullman double berth with NEW mattress, excellent storage, and full bathroom opposite. The other private cabin is aft, again with a generous double berth, with adjacent lounge. There are also two single settee berths available when additional accommodation is required.

Outside, the superbly done varnish work absolutely gleams and is well protected by the NEW covers. There is easy access around the wide side decks, and the high bulwarks add to the feeling of security. With all new sails built out of traditional cream Contender Sail Cloth, the vessel is simply a joy to sail! It has also been modernised for easy cruising with the NEW dinghy davits, addition of solar panels, and has extensive safety equipment for offshore sailing.

This vessel is powered by a well maintained and reliable 2010 Diecon (Nissan) 125HP Diesel Engine. This provides easy and economical cruising at a 5-6 knots. The vessel also features 1200L fuel capacity, making even the most remote locations accessible!
