NEW Sportsman Open 302 Centre Console

The 302 was designed from the keel up as a complete package rather than a stretched 28 or a shrunken 32, and it shows in how little it asks the owner to give up. 9.19 metres, 3.15-metre beam, 22 degrees at the transom, 1,117 litres of fuel and 700 horsepower: agile enough to be fun, big enough to be serious.

Dual steering positions come standard, which is rare at this size and tells you what the boat is for: one position for running, one for working the boat around fish. Twin pressurised 114-litre aquarium livewells with viewing glass sit aft, dual insulated macerated in-deck fish boxes flank the leaning post, and the leaning post itself carries an organised tackle centre with drawers, a freshwater sink and a removable cutting board. Six flush-mount gunwale rod holders and six under-gunwale racks handle the rest.

Inside the console is an enclosed head with an electric porcelain toilet, a pull-out shower and sink combination and secure rod storage, with large access doors behind the helm for electronics. Forward, the electronically actuated bow table moves between dining, lounging and open deck. A 95-litre console cooler sits under the forward seat.

Overhead, the oversized fibreglass hardtop carries a panoramic seamless windscreen, integrated lighting and speakers, and Lumitec Razor spot and flood bars. SportLink runs dual Garmin chartplotters, JL Audio and digital switching. A Seakeeper pod is built into the stringers, and with the unit fitted, Sportsman quote up to 95 per cent roll elimination at rest. Second station available.
