BARRY JARMAN is a 23.5m self propelled steel landing barge, built in 1968 by A&G Price Limited in Auckland, New
Zealand. Originally the Ro-Ro ferry "Ko-Hura" for the Hokianga County Council, she has since been restored, strengthened
and re-equipped as a versatile shallow water work barge, and is now based in Sydney. Her 10 year out of water survey
renewal has just been completed, including a full driveline overhaul with replacement of the shaft seals and bearings, plus
work on the rudders and anode system and hull thickness measuring. The survey renewal has been approved, and the
vendor is currently waiting on the surveyor to issue the new Certificate of Survey. The 10 year out of water survey report from
July 2026 is available on request, as is the 10 year in water survey renewal report from October 2024.
Her steel deck runs 25.3m, overhanging the hull, with 6.3m of working width narrowing to 3.9m between the wheelhouse and
the deck crane. A 5.2m wide bow loading ramp allows vehicles, plant and materials to be driven or loaded straight on and off.
The port side hydraulic knuckle boom crane lifts 3.6T at 2.2m and 1.2T at 9m, so it can lift over 1T from almost anywhere on
deck. A 3-point hydraulic anchoring system, with two bow winches and a stern winch amidships, holds her on station while
working.
She is powered by twin 2009 Cummins 270HP diesels, driving twin shafts with 4 blade props through Twin Disc gearboxes.
Engine cooling is via grid keel coolers, which allow for consistent shallow water operations without the risk of overheating due
to fouled raw water intakes. The engine gauges were working at inspection, but the running hours were not displaying, so we
could not get an accurate reading. The engines have reportedly done below 1,000 hours. Twin hydraulic bow thrusters, fitted
in 2001 and driven by a dedicated Lees Marine 80HP diesel power pack, give added control when manoeuvring. She draws
only 1.1m on a 7.86m beam, carries an advised 7,000 litres of fuel (TBC) across two tanks, and has a 40kVA Ford generator
onboard.
Her bilges and internals are in remarkably good condition for a vessel of her age, and a very thorough set of hard copy
records is available, including full reports of her refits and the thruster and crane installations. The vendor is willing to paint
her before sale. With her heavy lift deck crane, loading ramp, shallow draft and 3-point anchoring system, she has the
capacity to fill a range of shallow water construction, mooring and transport works

Despite some fading paint, the Barry Jarman presents in remarkable conidtion, especially for a 58 year old vessel. The internal spaces and bilges are all paint sealed and rust-free. The machinery was run-up for inspection and in good working order. The bow thrusters provide great manouverability and the riased helm provides clear visbility over the loading ramp and 360deg views across the decks. The knuckle crane provides good lifting capacity and hasa 1T drum winch, with reach across the deck.
