'Carolina Moon' was built as a pleasure craft in the Isle of Guernsey and in 2002 shipped by her original owner to Fremantle. Although the Atlantis 47 looks like a luxury recreational sports fisherman, her pilot boat heritage means she is structurally built like a Sherman tank and capable of taming even the most inclement weather. At wide open throttle she manages to leap out of the water to a spritely 24 knots.
Safety was also a big consideration on the Atlantis breed, wide bulwarks provide great access to the bow while high stainless rails stop you failing overboard. Ten substantial cleats will ensure she never comes adrift. Nothing Micky Mouse about her, she is heavily built.
Engineering, both electrical and mechanical to me appear to be installed by craftsmen that give a damn. Below the waterline she boasts a full keel - Three times the size of most recreational boats - which provides protection for your props, reduces swing at anchor and drift while fishing.
Ventilation is plentiful. While providing access to the side deck, the skippers coach door and the opening saloon windows enable the breeze to flow through when required. Her original owner boasts how the leather trim was fabricated by the same fella that supplied Sunseeker and Princess in the UK. Having myself reclined in the voluptuous lounge on Carolina Moon, I would not be at all surprised! This particular Atlantis 47 was apparently once presented at a boat show in Southampton, England.
In recent years her second and current owner has gone to town on a major refurbishment. The list of improvements, upgrades and replacements is extensive! Included is a new custom built fibreglass hardtop over the flybridge which compliments her traditional lines.
Other upgrades include;
Both engines removed and everything recommended to be carried out by diverse engineering was completed
