Crowley 48 Classic Timber Cruiser

Here is a very rare opportunity. It is not often that classic boats come onto the market, particularly vessels that have undergone extensive renovation and present like a modern cruiser, while still retaining the charm of the original builder and period.

This is a beautiful classic Moreton Bay cruiser and, although built in 1947, she has been significantly refurbished, remodelled, updated and meticulously maintained by several caring owners.

Stella Maris underwent a major refit from 2005 to 2009, during which she was stripped and rebuilt from the bottom up over a four-year period. The hull was splined, epoxied, fibre glassed and fully two-pack painted. The coach house and decks were completely renewed. All equipment was replaced, including the main engine, generator, electrics, fixtures and fittings, windows, plumbing and engineering throughout. A new interior fit-out was completed featuring teak cabinetry, parquetry floors and more. The vessel was relaunched and commissioned as new and has been maintained in excellent order ever since.

The current owner has continued to maintain Stella Maris to the highest standard, under the care of skilled shipwrights. The majority of recent works were completed at Redland City Marina, including a recent paint job.

She features a well-designed two-cabin layout sleeping six plus one, with an aft master cabin offering an island bed and ensuite. The forward cabin provides four bunks and a separate bathroom. The open and light saloon includes large windows, a comprehensive helm station, day bed, well-appointed galley, Ultraleather lounge/dinette, and air-conditioning throughout.

Wide walk-around side decks provide port and starboard access, leading to a good-sized cockpit with extended hardtop and camp covers. Additional features include custom stainless-steel rails, swim ladder and davit, teak-laid decks, and protective exterior covers.

Powered by a Diecon Nissan 180hp diesel shaft drive with PSS seal (approximately 1100 hours), she cruises comfortably at 7 knots at 1,200 rpm, using under 1 litre per nautical mile. Exceptional range is provided by 740 litres of diesel and 840 litres of water in stainless-steel tanks. Additional equipment includes a Maddox bonding system, Aquavolt 8kVA diesel generator, Raymarine electronics, BEP electrical panels, 24V start system, Trojan house batteries, and much more.

First launched in 1947, Stella Maris was constructed in Brisbane by master shipwright Charles Crowley and his team for a private owner to cruise Moreton Bay. Built to exacting standards and specifications, she is based on an Australian Navy pilot boat design and features a carvel hull with Spotted Gum frames, Blue Gum and Turpentine planking, an Ironbark keel, and Tea Tree knees.
