Jeanneau Sun Fast 36

The Sun Fast 36 is one of those timeless true cruiser/racers that still looks great today. This Briand design rates and sails well with a very competitive IRC rating and this particular yacht came 6th out of 20 in the double-handed division of the 2022 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race. In preparation it had new rigging, sails, electronics and new rudder bearings in 2022, so very much ready to be enjoyed for years to come.

Despite their performance characteristics these yachts have a superbly comfortable and well fitted out cruising interior that far exceeded their Australian counterparts of the time such as the Northshore NSX38 or J35 and still hold up very well today as being stylish and comfortable. The hull also has Kevlar reinforcing in the slamming and high load areas, so these are strong tough offshore yachts.

Stepping down below there is an L-shaped galley to port and the head to starboard. The saloon has an aft facing nav table to starboard and settee come sea berth, while the dinette is to port. There are twin aft cabins and a v-berth cabin forward with hanging lockers.

The tiller makes sense as it completely opens the cockpit space and with a folding picnic table is perfect for entertaining. There is a transom shower and BBQ bayonet and open bench seats with three lockers.

This yacht has been much loved by its shipwright owner of 15 years and kept in excellent condition. If you enjoy a cruising yacht that sails well, or you are looking for a yacht to do some competitive sailing but have the comfort to spend holidays onboard then you should put this yacht on your short-list.
