Jock Muir 47 Huon Pine Cutter 'Wild Wave'

'Wild Wave', a 47' (LOD) cutter, robustly constructed of Huon Pine, was designed for and built in conjunction with the Keates brothers by Jock Muir whose name is synonymous with many of Australia's finest timber yachts. The Muir pedigree, beautiful lines, and outstanding performance at sea are hallmarks of Jock Muir's design as evidenced by her remarkable performance in the 1953 Sydney to Hobart.
'Wild Wave' has been much-loved and fastidiously maintained, including a major refit in 2009 by the present owner/custodian/shipwright. Recent hardstand maintenance included full hull and topsides paint and new bronze through-hull sea-cocks. New electronics were installed, including an Airmar transducer, a B&G Chartplotter and a VHF radio with AIS. In her recent history, 'Wild Wave' has benefited from upgrades/refits both aesthetic and practical, to enhance boat handling efficiency. An ever-reliable 80 hp Ford Albacore 2701e engine provides auxiliary power.
Wild Wave has been "home" (and a very comfortable one) to the current owner, who describes her as a spacious and practical big-volume boat. She can sleep 8. The forward V cabin offers the equivalent of king-size berths. Immediately aft are two single (under/over) bunks. Saloon settees with lee cloths sleep two, and then the quarter berths (port & starboard) are much sought-after sea berths. There is plenty of locker storage for the full crew. A large deckhouse shelters the crew, instruments and the companionway.

In readiness for winter a wood fireplace in currently being installed on the boat as well.

"Wild Wave represents a rare opportunity to own and enjoy a simply beautiful, fully functional heritage yacht. Cruise, liveaboard, and experience the delight of sailing a true, classic timber thoroughbred.

Remarks
Owner note: In 2021/22, I sailed Wild Wave from Sydney to Adelaide, then in 2023 from Adelaide to Melbourne.
We recently sailed 'Wild Wave' to Tasmania to participate in the wonderful 2025 Australian Wooden Boat Festival.

A Jock Muir note on the Sydney to Hobart: "In 1953, we completed the 630 nautical mile Sydney to Hobart yacht race in five days, four hours, five minutes and 25 seconds (corrected time of three days, 22 hours and three minutes). We had taken the lead on the first night out of Sydney and were never headed. On the second day, we were some three hours, 17 minutes ahead of our old rival Solveig, with Josephine and the Livingston brothers' Kurrewa III battting it out for minor placings. We were placed fourth on handicap. She was the first Tasmanian-owned, designed, built, and skippered yacht to win line honours. "
