Bering 55 Euro - Expedition Motor Cruiser

The Bering 55 is a long range, ocean going passagemaker built for economical cruising. If you are considering a Nordhavn, Marlow, or Selene, this is a boat that deserves to be on your radar.

Built in steel, this displacement hull features three keels that add stability and help protect the running gear. Powered by a single Cummins 285HP engine, she cruises comfortably at 7.5 knots while consuming just 24 litres per hour, giving an approximate range of 2,000nm with reserve. A small Cummins backup drive engine, or wing motor, is also fitted to get you home in an emergency.

Two Onan gensets supply 240V AC power for the major electrical systems. In addition, three 5kW Victron inverters can run most onboard appliances without needing to start a genset. An 800 watt solar array mounted on the flybridge hardtop provides charging to the 2,100amp hours of batteries during daylight hours.

If safety and redundancy matter to you, 'Little One' is very well set up, with at least two or three backup systems for the key equipment onboard. Whether it is navigation gear, engines, anchors, or generators, you will have options if things go pear shaped.

Everything about the Bering 55 feels more like a small ship than a yacht. The wheelhouse sits in an elevated position forward of the galley. Reverse facing windows reduce glare and UV heat, while giving the pilot clear 180 degree vision. Five large format digital screens deliver a huge amount of navigational information. There are VHF and HF marine radios, along with systems for monitoring and managing fuel and water, and more.

At first glance, this boat can seem a little overwhelming, but after a couple of hours onboard it starts to make sense and you quickly appreciate how manageable she really is. Her current owners say they handle her comfortably as a couple.

Bow and stern thrusters make berthing especially easy. Communication between skipper and deckhand can sometimes be tricky when manoeuvring a vessel of this size, but wireless headsets solve that problem beautifully.

If you enjoy machinery and practical engineering, the engine room aboard Little One is sure to impress. It is easily accessed through a watertight door in the second guest cabin, and the layout is so well planned it feels more like a workshop than an engine room. Everything is accessible and thoughtfully arranged, and there is even a workbench and sink. It is a standout space for anyone who appreciates well organised systems.

There are three cabins for owners and guests. The master stateroom is forward in the bow and includes a private ensuite, cross ventilation through portholes, and large cedar lined wardrobes. The owners say they sleep wonderfully well here, as it is so quiet with no hull slap, which is one of the benefits of her shape and solid steel hull.

The guest cabins are also very generous, with excellent headroom, ventilation, and natural light. They include a queen berth to starboard and two king singles in the third cabin to port. These cabins share a bathroom that is, incidentally, large enough for two.

Stairs from the accommodation lead up into the living room. An L-shaped lounge and table make this a warm, comfortable space for dining, relaxing, or watching TV. It is a generous room with large windows that fill the area with natural light and make the most of the outlook. From here, you can head up to the galley or step out onto the rear deck.

If you enjoy cooking and take food seriously, the galley is very well equipped with full size domestic fridges, microwaves, ovens, and plenty of bench space. The cook remains nicely connected to both the living area and the wheelhouse, where an elevated table offers the option to dine while taking in the view ahead.

The flybridge can be reached either by an internal staircase from the wheelhouse or by a second staircase from the rear deck. Laid with solid teak decking, it is easy to picture this as a lovely place to entertain twenty or so guests on a balmy evening while the sun goes down. The helm is set on a slightly raised section of the flybridge and includes basic navigation equipment. When the weather allows, this is a beautiful spot to sit with excellent visibility while cruising through coral reefs into sheltered bays, keeping an eye out for whales, manta rays, and other marine life.

'Little One' is seriously for sale. If you're after an adventure and exploring the world or just chasing a luxurious floating home for local waters this vessel will do it all. Please don't hesitate to call one of the team at Motoryachts Unlimited to arrange an inspection.
