When Carver set out to build their flagship back in 1998, they weren't interested in playing it safe. The 530 Voyager broke the mould as one of the first non-aft-cabin motoryachts of her size to put a full-beam master amidships -- and in doing so she became the best-selling yacht in her class for years running. Her sweeping pilothouse lines still turn heads today, and her cherry timber interior remains every bit as warm and welcoming as the day she launched.
Highlander arrived in Perth brand new in 1999 and was in the same family's care for the best part of a decade, now on her fourth owner, who has looked after her meticulously. This is a vessel that has been used, loved, and maintained -- not parked.
A LAYOUT THAT STILL WORKS
Step through the curved stainless-framed cockpit door and you're straight into the saloon and galley, with the cooking and entertaining space right where the action is rather than tucked away below. A curved settee wraps the lower helm chair so that guests can accompany the skipper, and an internal staircase leads you straight up to the flybridge -- no stepping outside in the weather.
The wheelhouse is genuinely one of the best features of this design. With close to 360-degree visibility and a proper helm position out of the sun and spray, it's built for comfortable long-range cruising, not just marina hopping. Whether you're heading north to Exmouth or overnighting down at Hamelin Bay, Highlander is the kind of boat that makes the passage part of the holiday.
Below decks you've got three genuinely comfortable cabins -- a midship full-beam master with its own separate toilet and separate shower stalls with vanity between the two (a layout well ahead of its time when this boat was designed), a forward guest cabin with an island double berth and semi-ensuite, and a port side guest cabin with single bunks, ideal for the kids or crew. Cruisair ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning keeps every internal area comfortable, wherever you're cruising.
Up top, the flybridge is built for entertaining. A circular lounge with a moulded table comfortably seats eight or nine, and the tender lives up there on its own davit system -- so you're not sacrificing cockpit or swimboard space.
POWER AND PRACTICALITY
Twin Cummins 8.3L 6CTA-8M diesels, 450hp each, with roughly 1,869 hours on the clock, will see Highlander cruising at 17 knots at 2,250 RPM with a 20-knot top end -- plenty of pace when you want it, and easy on fuel when you don't. A Yachtcontroller wireless docking system and bow thruster make berthing a one-person job, and the engine room itself is genuinely massive for a boat this size -- a real plus when it comes to maintenance and peace of mind.
A few of the practical touches that matter when you're doing serious miles:
* Kohler 11kVA genset to run all of your home comforts
* Aquamiser FCI watermaker for endless fresh water on passage
* Highfield 290 RIB tender with Yamaha 6hp outboard (new 2022) -- your water taxi is already aboard
* Raymarine E120 multifunction display, autopilot and VHF to the flybridge -- keeps you on course in any conditions
* Yachtcontroller wireless remote helm control -- short-handed manoeuvring made simple
* Extended swimboard -- large enough to store another tender or jet ski
* Side wheelhouse door for quick access to the foredeck from the lower helm
* Teak cockpit floor
