Great design doesn't date and the 42DS is one of the all-time best designs that combines great sailing characteristics and an excellent roomy cockpit with great ergonomics. Down below the saloon is perfect with everything in a balance, the owner's cabin is sensational and yet the guest cabin is also generous and has its own ensuite.
This particular version ticks all the boxes having the earlier distinctive teardrop coachroof windows, the later lighter timber finish and owners' cabin with the highest sitting headroom. It's a comfortable 45-footer ingeniously packaged into a 42-foot hull.
The 42DS came standard with an in-mast furling mainsail, but this one is one of the few imported into Australia with a conventional main, and also has the Performance Pack and upgraded sails, so expect joyful cruising performance, or even take part in fun events!
Starting from the transom there are steps from the swim-platform making it easy board from a dinghy or the dock, and on the transom, there is a large swim ladder and hot & cold shower. Under the port helm seat is the twin gas locker, while under the starboard seat there is a deep storage locker. Both cockpit bench seats have generous lockers under them, and these seats step up to provide comfortable seating in the protection of the spray dodger. There is a full canvas package that was renewed in 2021 with Spray dodger, Bimini, infill and side screens.
Stepping down below the L-shaped galley is to starboard and includes a microwave driven by the boats Sinewave invertor, which also feeds to all power points. To port is the forward facing nav' station and the saloon has a bench seat to port and a u-shaped dinette to starboard. There is a considerable amount of stowage space throughout, including under the saloon floors.
Forward is the guest cabin with a large hanging locker and an ensuite to starboard, while aft is the extraordinary full width owners' cabin with a King-sized bed and sitting up headroom. Both cabins having near new mattresses and there are fans throughout the boat.
This is a very well-maintained yacht that is perfect for a retired couple to explore our waterways, with the ability to cruise as far as you might dream. Two 42DS's cruised out from France and many many others have cruised the East coast and beyond to Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
It's been very well maintained including new rigging in March of 2024, last engine service in October 2025 and antifouling just done in December 2025.
